Although I have never seen Jennifer's Body , I can imagine what it might be like because I have seen the iconic movie Mean Girls . It sounds like this movie starts out to be a typical high school mean girl diva movie but turns into an unexpectedly funny parody where the meal girl is actually demonic. I think this was actually a smart twist to put into the movie because people like Regina George are often described as like the devil. It actually makes you think about how these mean girls are being perceived. Just by reading the lead blog this week I can tell that I would like this movie and I definitely would want to watch it with some of my girlfriends. I can totally understand how the movie is funny because, from the examples given, Jennifer seems like a crazy person who says and does very unexpected things which I am sure makes the movie very funny.

I have never watched the movie Superbad but I do know the scene that is talked about in the blog. This scene is popular on Twitter and other social media platforms because this is such an iconic movie. I can clearly tell that Superbad must be a funny movie solely from the "attempt to buy alcohol" scene. I can also tell how the two boys are trying so hard to seem cool by buying alcohol for the party they were invited to. I think it is so funny how they expect their friend, who looks 13, to buy them alcohol, not to mention the fact that his fake id says McLovin as his name. When "McLovin" goes to the cashier it is amusing that he is so scared because of the superiority theory. The audience knows what he is about to do is so dumb and he is definitely going to get caught. This makes it so much funnier that he is trying to be confident while making small talk but in reality, he is shaking and very nervous. The incongruity in the scene is also prevalent. One incongruity...

Tom and Jerry is one of the best shows I used to watch as a kid! I was actually obsessed! Of course, the show is a perfect example of the incongruity theory because Jerry (the mouse) always manages to escape Tom (the cat). It is also funny because of the fact that Jerry uses things like bombs, guns, and dynamite to avoid Tom at all costs. Even though Tom is clearly being attacked in any way possible, he still tries so hard to catch Jerry. I feel like the episode you describe at the beginning of the second paragraph was a good choice because I feel like it portrays the show as a whole very well. I never had thought about the importance of the fact that Tom and Jerry only uses music and sound effects and I agree that this is an important aspect of the show because it displays the era it was created in. Anyway, I did not know that this show came out in the 1940s. I cannot believe that you can still see Tom and Jerry running on TV and that it is even so well known. I am very glad it be...

I have never seen the movie Deadpool but I have heard it is very funny. I am a big Ryan Reynolds fan so I have no problem believing that this movie is great. I enjoy how you explain that Deadpool is such a big hit because of the fact that it is a superhero movie and a comedy rolled into one. Because you, Katie, explained what happens in the movie I feel like I am better able to follow along when you explain the benign violation and the incongruity in this lead blog post. I agree with the fact that you think one of the best parts of the movie is Deadpool's sense of humor. I have seen clips and/or memes from this movie that have been very funny. I think it is an interesting aspect of the movie that Deadpool talks directly to the viewers. I feel like this is pretty uncommon with large movies like this but I think that it makes the movie sort of more appealing because the viewers feel more included. After watching the "Maximum Effort" Highway Scene, I now think this is a much...

Lead Blog: The Good Place

Image
For my lead blog, I have decided to write about a show called The Good Place . This show is about a group of people, a robot lady, and an immortal being. The group of people has all just died and think they are in The Good Place (this is supposed to represent heaven) when actually they have been sent to The Bad Place (hell) to suffer forever. They each suffer in their own ways until they figure out they are not supposed to be there. The immortal being was trying out a new technique of torture. Instead of burning and stabbing them, he was going to slowly have them drive each other insane. The robot lady is named Janet. She literally knows everything in the universe and is basically an Alexa but in a human body. She can also get you whatever you want. She originally is there to make the scene seem real to the humans but comes in handy quite often when the humans are scheming. 1 The first scene from this show is when Jason, who is pretending to be a silent monk when he is ac...

I happen to agree that Elf is one of the classic Christmas movies and one of the best movies of all time. The fact that just the mentioning of the movie can make people so excited for Christmas time just goes to show how iconic the movie really is. Will Ferrell is absolutely hilarious in this movie and really gives a great portrayal of his confused character. I can definitely see how the incongruity theory is a huge part of what makes Elf to funny. Just look at the way he dresses. He is literally dressed in an elf costume roaming around New York City. Who would expect that? I like the example of the benign violation Kaitlin chose for her lead blog post. The fact that Buddy the Elf walks into a Macy's and thinks that is it Santa's workshop is so funny. It is humorous because he is literally running around like a little kid looking for Santa Claus. This is a benign violation because it is this grown man acting like a kid but it is not offensive but we can still make fu...

First off, RIP Vine. So much comedy from one app that still lives on through other social media. My favorite vine is the one where a girl walks by on the phone saying "and they were roommates" with sass in her voice and the guy flips the camera around and copies her in a funny voice. Moving on, I love the videos you talked about in your lead blog. I have watched like all their videos and they are hilarious. My favorite one you talked about in the blog was the one with the Salem Witch Trials. I think it was so funny when they said they were going to burn her because she said her favorite word was "moist." I think this is so funny because they are actually making fun of the witch trials for calling people witches when they never did anything to be suspicious of that. I also like the one with the one about Adam and Eve. It is so funny because the one thing God told them not to do is eat the apple. Then Eve wanders off not paying attention and eats the apple. I liked th...
