Lead Blog: The Good Place

Image
For my lead blog, I have decided to write about a show called The Good Place . This show is about a group of people, a robot lady, and an immortal being. The group of people has all just died and think they are in The Good Place (this is supposed to represent heaven) when actually they have been sent to The Bad Place (hell) to suffer forever. They each suffer in their own ways until they figure out they are not supposed to be there. The immortal being was trying out a new technique of torture. Instead of burning and stabbing them, he was going to slowly have them drive each other insane. The robot lady is named Janet. She literally knows everything in the universe and is basically an Alexa but in a human body. She can also get you whatever you want. She originally is there to make the scene seem real to the humans but comes in handy quite often when the humans are scheming. 1 The first scene from this show is when Jason, who is pretending to be a silent monk when he is ac...

I happen to agree that Elf is one of the classic Christmas movies and one of the best movies of all time. The fact that just the mentioning of the movie can make people so excited for Christmas time just goes to show how iconic the movie really is. Will Ferrell is absolutely hilarious in this movie and really gives a great portrayal of his confused character. I can definitely see how the incongruity theory is a huge part of what makes Elf to funny. Just look at the way he dresses. He is literally dressed in an elf costume roaming around New York City. Who would expect that? I like the example of the benign violation Kaitlin chose for her lead blog post. The fact that Buddy the Elf walks into a Macy's and thinks that is it Santa's workshop is so funny. It is humorous because he is literally running around like a little kid looking for Santa Claus. This is a benign violation because it is this grown man acting like a kid but it is not offensive but we can still make fu...

First off, RIP Vine. So much comedy from one app that still lives on through other social media. My favorite vine is the one where a girl walks by on the phone saying "and they were roommates" with sass in her voice and the guy flips the camera around and copies her in a funny voice. Moving on, I love the videos you talked about in your lead blog. I have watched like all their videos and they are hilarious. My favorite one you talked about in the blog was the one with the Salem Witch Trials. I think it was so funny when they said they were going to burn her because she said her favorite word was "moist." I think this is so funny because they are actually making fun of the witch trials for calling people witches when they never did anything to be suspicious of that. I also like the one with the one about Adam and Eve. It is so funny because the one thing God told them not to do is eat the apple. Then Eve wanders off not paying attention and eats the apple. I liked th...

I have never seen The Big Lebowski  but apparently, it is a huge hit with large amounts of people and has many comedic aspects within it. I think the film is such a large hit it because of the genres it can fit into. The way the movie can be a western, a comedy, a drama, or even surrealist nonsense definitely draws a big crowd from all different parts of society. The events of this movie seem to be hysterical and very unexpected, which I suppose is where the incongruity theory can be seen in the film. Also based on the way Zach described him, I would agree that The Dude is easy to make fun of because of the things he does. This is a great use of the superiority theory at work in The Big Lebowski. The third theory that can be seen in this film is the relief theory. According to Zach, this theory comes up in the movie because of how real it feels to the audience because of the casual acting, even though the scenes are so far fetched. I think the Dude character seems so ente...
