My Take on Comedy (first blog)

Everyone needs laughter in their lives. Whether you are laughing with people or at yourself, you should always have time in your day for comedy. Comedy comes in many ways. You and some friends could just be laughing because you burned dinner for the third night in a row, or you all could be watching a live comedy show. These are both ways of bringing laughter to your life. Another way comedy is a part of everyday life is through television and social media. I believe shows like Saturday Night Live or Modern Family attract such large amounts of people because the show is relatable. People like to have a break from their everyday lives, even if it is just for an hour, to sit and watch something funny. The people behind the television are escaping into another world where someone else has all the focus. There is no pressure from work, family, or school while they are watching the TV show. Laughing at yourself is another way to lighten a mood or take away some of the stresses of life. I like to be able to laugh at myself when I make stupid mistakes because if I am too hard on myself, I will not feel comfortable enough to try again. Being able to constructively criticize yourself can help you to learn from your mistakes. I have watched comedians like Amy Schumer and Iliza Shlesinger and I enjoy their shows. They turn everyday things into something everyone can relate to and laugh about. People like Amy and Iliza turn things that are uncomfortable to talk about into something everyone can laugh about. They are able to say what everyone else is thinking is too inappropriate, too gross, or too crude. They turn it into something people can laugh about and not feel bad for it. Comedy is throughout all aspects of life; it is up to you to choose how to incorporate laughter into yours.

  1. Comedy is probably one of the most popular forms of relaxation. What distinguishes comic relief from relief in general?
