I really enjoyed both of these songs. They were a nice change from what we have been viewing previously. I also like how you chose to focus on two specific songs instead of the show as a whole. The first song, "Face Your Fears," was so fun because Paula, Rebecca's friend, was just saying all these things that were generic motivational song stuff but then she starts going on and on about these crazy examples which is what makes the song funny. I agree that this is an example of the incongruity theory because you would not expect someone to encourage another person to try to fly or to run with scissors in their hand. I also agree that when Rebecca is making comments it adds relief humor into the mix because she is pointing out the incongruity within the song. The second song is also funny because most of the time you would not want to be someone's second choice or have someone settle for you. But in this case, this man is begging for a woman to settle for him because her first choice has a girlfriend, which is an example of incongruity theory in itself. The song is also an example of the incongruity theory because it sounds like it was going to be a nice, romantic song but in reality, it is not romantic at all. I'm glad you picked these songs and I'll have to check out this show!!

  1. Maybe we could call it "accurate romance songs" as in that's what people are really saying. As in the scene in Annie Hall where you have subtitles that show what people are really thinking/

  2. I definitley agree how how Rebecca uses relief theory and is something I didn't realize before. Although, in "settle for me" I saw the reaction that Rebecca had as being the incongruity factor rather than greg pouring his heart out for her.
