Response to Lead Blog 6
I happen to agree that Elf is one of the classic Christmas movies and one of the best movies of all time. The fact that just the mentioning of the movie can make people so excited for Christmas time just goes to show how iconic the movie really is. Will Ferrell is absolutely hilarious in this movie and really gives a great portrayal of his confused character. I can definitely see how the incongruity theory is a huge part of what makes Elf to funny. Just look at the way he dresses. He is literally dressed in an elf costume roaming around New York City. Who would expect that? I like the example of the benign violation Kaitlin chose for her lead blog post. The fact that Buddy the Elf walks into a Macy's and thinks that is it Santa's workshop is so funny. It is humorous because he is literally running around like a little kid looking for Santa Claus. This is a benign violation because it is this grown man acting like a kid but it is not offensive but we can still make fun of him for it, especially because he is still in his bright green Elf outfit. I also think the superiority theory is in this movie. An example of this is when Buddy is eating breakfast. Instead of eating regular breakfast food, Buddy is having spaghetti with syrup, marshmallows, and sprinkles. This is superiority because, as the viewers watching, we think that is so gross and only something a little kid would do. All is all Elf is a Christmas time masterpiece. This hilarous movie deserves to be watched by everyone.
I would have to agree with you on how Elf is one of the best Christmas movies. I also agree with you on how the superiority theory is evident in the movie.
ReplyDeleteApparently there was a kids show that showed spaghetti tacos once and it really caught on as an actual food that children liked to eat. I wonder if syrup spaghetti could do the same?
